HTC Touch Diamond 2

Toshiba TG01

While we weren’t originally cheering fans of the Toshiba TG01′s somewhat odd “stripey” interface, checking it out in person tells a different tale. It actually makes sense and works surprisingly well, and really, there is a reason why we’ve seen so many Windows Mobile skinning efforts, the shipped interface needs it.

Sony Ericsson Idou

Sony Ericsson launched its 12.1 megapixel Idou at Mobile World Congress yesterday evening, and while not a finished device, we checked it out anyway. The Idou will eventually roll with the Symbian Foundation’s OS, but the version we’re seeing here is somewhere in between.

Nokia E55

eigentlich nicht wirklich ein Smartphone (jedenfalls kein Querty) aber toll wärs schon mal, ein Handy wieder in die Hosentasche zu kriegen (Aber hat ja sowieso ne Kamera)

We sniffed out Nokia’s new E55 not-a-QWERTY QWERTY candybar phone, which uses a SureType-esque predictive text mechanism with two letters per key, and looks pretty good doing it. Nokia’s calling this the “world’s thinnest smartphone,” quite the feat if it’s true, and it might just give Nokia’s ultrapopular E71 a run for its money in the “fashionably smart” category.

HTC G2/Magic

Die Android Varianten sehe ich eigentlich nicht als Smartphone, da die nicht mit dem Desktop synchronisierbar sind. Vielleicht sollte man sie als “Internet-Phone” bezeichnen? Immerhin wars ja ne Erfindung von Google…

We can already tell that this naming thing is getting out of hand, but for all intents and purposes, the handset you see above is the same HTC G2 we’ve seen hosted up in T-Mobile documentation and those gnarly in the wild snaps.

Das ist jetzt eines das mir als altem Communicator-Fan gut gefallen könnte. Vor allem weils mal kein Ziegelstein ist. Aber natürlich ist da wieder ne Kamera drin. Und mich stört bei den Nokias immer noch heftig dass die keine Outlook Kategorien syncen…

Samsung Ultra Touch

The hits keep coming at MWC 09, and while we’re racing around from liveblog to liveblog, the crew at Engadget Spanish managed to snag some quality time with Samsung’s Ultra Touch S8300 slider.

Wenigstens versuchen sie nicht, das Teil als “Businessphone” zu verkaufen, sonst müsste ich wieder die obligatorische Frage nach der kameralosen Version stellen… Ansonsten nettes Gerätchen, wobei ich mich frage, ob da eine vernünftige Akkulaufzeit machbar ist. Ähnlich wie bei Notebooks wird zwar hier immer wieder optimiert, aber das ganze dann durch neue schnellere Prozessoren wieder zunichte gemacht. Vor den Netbooks konnte man ja bei Notebooks pauschal von einer Laufzeit von 2-3 Stunden rechnen, *egal* was drin steckte…

In London hat Toshiba mit dem TG01 das erste Smartphone mit dem Snapdragon-Chipsatz von Qualcomm gezeigt. Der Chipsatz besteht aus einem mit einem Gigahertz getakteten Prozessorkern und einem 600-MHz-Signalprozessor (DSP) sowie Chips für die Kommunikation via UMTS, WLAN und Bluetooth. Dazu soll er dank Stromspartechnik trotz hoher Leistung für lange Akkulaufzeiten sorgen.

Wie ich heute auf xdadevelopers gelesen habe, gibts den AT&T Fuze (aka HTC Fuze, aka HTC Touch Pro, aka HTC P4600, aka Raphael) auch ohne Kamera (heisst dann intern HTC P4600 NC). Scheinbar hat das Telefon sowieso keine Frontkamera (AT&T hat noch keine Videotelefonie), und dann ist es natürlich etwas leichter, auch die hintere Kamera auszubauen. Dummerweise kriegt man das Telefon nur im AT&T Business Bereich, und da kommt man nur ran wenn man mit AT&T Geschäfte macht (i.e. Firmenkunde ist). Bleibt also nur eine Trigger-Suche auf ebay, aber ob die recht erfolgreich ist bleibt abzuwarten. Immerhin findet man erst jetzt (zwei Generationen später) eine nennenswerte Anzahl an Treo 750 ohne Kamera da…

a) Es hat ne Kamera. Natürlich ne ganz tolle schicke Zeiss, die ist aber in vielen Bereichen genauso verboten wie eine billige VGA Kamera.
b) Nokia synchronisiert nach wie vor keine Kategorien mit Outlook Terminen. Das war für mich der Grund, vom Communicator wegzugehen. Aktuell kann imho nur Windows Mobile das, korrigiert mich wenn ich falsch liege.
c) Nokia hat eine hässliche Philosophie nur zertifizierte Software zu installieren. D.h. Entwickler müssen ein Zertifikat von Nokia haben, mit dem sie ihre Software “unterzeichnen” müssen, sonst lässt sich nichts installieren. Es gibt zwar Wege das zu umgehen, aber elegant (und vor allem flexibel) ist das nicht. Ich möchte doch bitte selbst entscheiden, welche Anwendung gut oder schlecht ist…

Nokia hat mit dem N97 in Barcelona sein neues Topmodell vorgestellt. Das Symbian-Smartphone bietet einen Touchscreen, eine QWERTZ-Tastatur, 32 GByte internen Speicher, einen Speicherkartensteckplatz, einen GPS-Empfänger und WLAN-Technik. Mit Nokia Maps lassen sich Kontakte in der Umgebung finden und Widgets vereinfachen die Anpassung an die eigenen Bedürfnisse.

We’re not quite sure what Samsung’s trying to pull here, but it’s apparently using some BizBee moniker to revamp a few dusty smartphones with Windows Mobile 6.1.
