New DHS laptop search policy: crap sandwich, fancier bread – Ars Technica

Tja, damit haben die Amis nur ihr Recht gefestigt, alle unsere Daten am Flughafen zu klauen. Und nachweislich wird das auch getan, und zwar nicht wegen Terroristen… worum dreht sich die Welt? Korrekt, um Geld. Und somit sind die interessantesten Daten auf Notebooks wohl die von ausländischen Firmen. Da wird munter Industriespionage im grossen Stil betrieben, und das auch noch (aus deren Sicht) legal. Gut wer sich zu helfen weiss: Platte komplett leeren, und ein verschlüsseltes Image auf einem anderen Datenträger mitnehmen, oder auf einem Server vorhalten. Vor Ort dann erst das Betriebssystem mit den Daten wieder aufspielen (natürlich sollten trotzdem relevante Partitionen noch verschlüsselt sein).
Oder gar nicht erst rüber zu den Deppen…

The DHS has issued formal rules to govern how Immigration and Customs authorities handle the seizure of electronic devices and records. The upshot is that agents can still keep your hardware for at least five days before anyone has to decide whether it’s reasonable to continue.

Netbook study finds that netbook buyers don’t know what netbooks are

Tja, da wollen wir doch mal was für die Bildung tun… man sollte schliesslich ein Netbook von einem Notebook unterscheiden können, auch wenn die Preisgrenzen langsam verschwimmen. Für mich sind die Dinger ja eh’ nix, da kann man nicht zocken mit ;)

Oh noes! According to some market research dudes, the average consumer cannot tell the difference between a netbook and a notebook. We’re inclined to believe that this is simply because the average consumer hasn’t perused this handy chart, but what do we know? Of course, the readers of Engadget are an intelligent and sophisticated bunch, one that understands all the intricacies of this — one of the most important questions of our time. But what about the folks that need to sell netbooks (and notebooks) to 18-24 year olds, one of the main demographics that manufacturers hope to reach with their products?
